What You Need To Know

Here is my saga on how I came upon the Good Grades Guide. My first year at college I studied the hardest and got the worst grades. My senior year at college something happened….. I studied the least amount of time and ended up getting the best grades that year….. One of my professors asked me if I would be the Teaching Assistant to help him review exam and essays. What made Good Grades Guide Reviewall the difference for me was that I learned techniques, skills and habits.  I have used these techniques so I could go through the ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide with something called the Good Grades Guide.

Good Grades Guide – Why Is It Important

 Good Grades Guide Review

So why is the Good Grades Guide so important to me? For some of those in still in college, maybe you want to transfer to a better college, apply to medical school or grad school.  Maybe the need to excel or make your family proud of you is what is driving you. After college, I ended up applying for jobs with the major Fortune 500 companies and achieving a certain Grade Point Average which was a requirement to even get an interview. Overall, learning how to take notes well, read the test properly and other study habits resulted in getting the grades I wanted and knew I deserved.

Good Grades Guide – What I Liked About It

Some of the cool things I got from the Good Grades Guide. I learned techniques for learning the equations, how to take notes properly

When I ended up getting some of the highest grades and was better prepared  when I went though the the ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide   I had increased confidence and knew I was increasing my jobs prospects or ability to be accepted to a graduate school. I learned techniques for learning the equations, how to take notes properly and I could set ambitious yet attainable goals that were specific and measurable for my academic success. This increase in my confidence resulted in getting more attractive opportunities for the potential grad or med schools I was considering.

The environment I had to study in was not ideal, I didn’t know how to handle the anxiety of tests and I had never heard of “learning styles” and had no idea how I could easily memorize or organize information efficiently to prepare for a big exam.

Good Grades Guide – What I Didn’t Like

The Good Grades Guide isn’t for everyone. If you are not prepared to commit to re-learning how to learn and if you aren’t open to new techniques and methods then this won’t work for you. I tried to convince my stubborn brother who is very set in his ways that this could really help him but he was not to be convinced. I had to set some time aside at the beginning to retrain my mind and had to go through the materials. There were no short-cuts on this part.

Good Grades Guide – Final Thoughts

After I got techniques for the Good Grades Guide  I was able to lower my stress level and get organized. I learned how to pace myself. I learned how to unlock my memory so I could retain new concepts and information better. I felt confident, had better grad and med school opportunities and felt a sense of pride in myself.

ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide – What You Need To Know

ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide is usually referred to as The General Chemistry Study Guide.  This includes 113 pages in three categories.  The first part is a brief explanation of content in general chemistry. In the second part there are example exam questions.   In the final part of the guide, there are practice questions.

Preparing for ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide

Content is derived from both semesters of General Chemistry and includes:

  • Descriptive Chemistry / Periodicity
  • Electrochemistry / Redox
  • Molecular Structure and Bonding
  • States of Matter / Solutions
  • Atomic Structure
  • Energetics
  • Dynamics
  • Stoichiometry
  • Equilibrium
  • Laboratory Chemistry

ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide – How To Handle Test Anxiety

Many of you experience the dreaded ‘test anxiety’ when you first see the ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide. This is very natural, and it stems from uncertainty. It is all material that has already been presented to you in class. It is true that you must read the directions, but nothing on the exam is meant to trick you.

ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide – The Study Guide for General Chemistry

Do start the serious studying at least one week before the exam.

The best way to learn the material is by writing it, not reading it. Reading is good for the initial exposure to the material, but to really learn it you have to write it. Many of you use flash cards – the first time you write the reaction scheme on a flash card you are performing the same operation that will be required of you on an exam (and that’s great), but after that, when you ‘study’ the cards, all you are really doing is reading them.

Remember you have a whole week so you don’t need to do all the reactions in one day. Make it more difficult by changing the direction of the reaction.

You might see the reaction presented from left to right, but the exam will often test your knowledge from right to left.

The best way to learn most anything is through repetition. This is why you need to start as early as possible and do a few reactions everyday.  Do learn the mechanisms in the same way – write them over and over.

ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide – How to Ace the ACS Examination in General Chemistry

Don’t wait too long before you start seriously studying the ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide.

Time is not on your side.  You have many classes and they all require a time commitment, but this can be managed if you do some organic studying everyday.

Don’t depend on tutors or group-study to learn the material. Tutors and group study work best when used to clarify complex points or help confirm that you already know the material when you have to explain it to others.

What I hope to give you in this study guide are my strategies regarding the best, most effective, way to study for the ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide. Your goal is to manage and learn the vast amount of material that is presented to you in this class.

ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide – How Can You Prepare For It?

The ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide is commonly called the General Chemistry Study Guide.  It includes 113 pages of information in three categories. The first part is a brief explanation of content in general chemistry. In the second part there are example exam questions where the question and answers are analyzed. You can see not only why the correct answer is correct, but also how the other incorrect answers are devised for a multiple-choice items. In the final part of the guide, there are practice questions for each section.

Many of you experience the dreaded ‘test anxiety’ when you first see the ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide. (or maybe when you wake-up the day of the exam). This is very natural, and it stems from uncertainty – you are uncertain what questions are on the exam and you are uncertain with your preparation for the exam. It is all material that has already been presented to you in class. Moreover, the questions are not ‘trick’ questions. It is true that you must read the directions, but nothing on the exam is meant to trick you.

Do start the ‘serious studying’ at least one week before the exam.

What I mean by this is that the best way to learn the material is by writing it, not reading it. Reading is good for the initial exposure to the material, but to really learn it you have to write it.

I believe that the best exercise you can do is take your lecture notes and a separate notebook and begin transferring reaction schemes from the notes to notebook.

Along with the reaction schemes you should include any relevant regio- and stereoselectivity associated with the reaction.

Don’t wait too long before you start seriously studying the ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide.

Remember that time is not on your side. It is never too early to start reading the book or reading through the notes, but with about a week left before the exam you need to begin a new kind of studying (more on this later).

And don’t be fooled – many of you use flash cards – the first time you write the reaction scheme on a flash card you are performing the same operation that will be required of you on an exam (and that’s great), but after that, when you ‘study’ the cards, all you are really doing is reading them.

ACS Organic Chemistry Study Guide –  ACS Final Exam Study Guide

What I hope to give you in this study guide are my personal ideas regarding the best, most effective, way to study organic chemistry – to be honest, I am speaking from personal experience – these are the techniques that I used when I was an undergraduate. Your goal is to manage and learn the vast amount of material that is presented to you in this class.
